Artist Information - Updated!Artist Statement Daily, I feel overwhelmed by the information that bombards me. I create art so my voice can be heard through the deafening roar of what is around me. My art is influenced by the here and now. The media, technology, politics, warfare, loss of individualism, and apathy are all influencers. While it is sometimes difficult, creating gives me control and allows me to truly express myself. While working on my BFA degree, I experimented with many different mediums. However, clay is the most freeing media for me. While it has its own limitations, using clay and knowing the process it will take is incredibly liberating. The firing processes force me to relinquish some control and prevent me from overworking a piece. Sometimes I’ll use other mediums, but I always return to clay. I need materials that move, bend, and forgive so I can push the form further and further. My art is somewhat process oriented, due to the medium. My main concerns are form, colour, and surface quality/texture. I tend to work in series, to attempt to exhaust an idea, to explore every possible aspect. My work is not just about the finished pieces; it’s about the journey which brought me there. It’s about the lines between art and craft, functional and sculptural, life and art.
